Happy New Year, y’all! 2019 is off to a great start with some reeeeeeeeeally cool concerts - check ‘em out!

Upcoming concerts (January-April)
February 3rd at Clark University (Worcester, MA)
March 26th at the Lilypad (Cambridge, MA)
I’ll be performing and teaching in a residency graciously hosted by Clark University - singing works in concert including ​​​Julia Werntz’s Kaspoleo Melea for vocal trio and Kate Soper’s Songs for Nobody. Joining forces with ​​​Rose Hegele and Katherine Growden. We’ll also be performing this concert set at the Lilypad as part of the Zero Point One Percent (improvised series curated by Pandelis Karayorgis and Eric Rosenthal)
February 22nd at ShapeShifter Lab (Brooklyn, NY)
In preparation for April 7th (see below!), I'm performing Aperghis' Recitations at ShapeShifter Lab in NYC --- Facebook link here. I want to get this piece picked up in a few more cities as well, so anyone or any venues out there who want to host, give me a shout!
Sunday April 7th at Third Life Studio (Somerville, MA)
This year I was awarded a grant from the Puffin Foundation to present a performance that advocates for social change. On April 7th in Boston, MA, Laila Franklin and I will present Recitations in Movement, a collaborative performance that seeks to express the many facets and sufferings of domestic abuse victims through the interaction between movement and voice. Proceeds for this performance will be donated to Rosie's Place - a shelter for poor and homeless women. This event will also be available via livestream! Friday April 12th, Inner Space (Brookline, MA)
Crossing a piece off of my bucket list, I'll be performing the entirety of Kate Soper's IPSA DIXIT with Equilibrium Ensemble as part of the ​​​Original Gravity Concert Series! This concert is definitely something you don't want to miss - plus, it'll be paired with several beers from local breweries!
Friday April 26th at Gallery 263 (Cambridge, MA)
Peridot will be performing another set of crazy vocal duos, including works by Carolyn Chen, Aaron Jay Myers, and Chaya Czernowin’s Manoalchadia for two voices and bass flute (played by Sho Kato). We can’t wait to share this with you all!
Commission!
Aaron Jay Myers wrote me a piece and IT IS MAGNIFICENT! It is a work for solo voice, Lichens 3, as a part of Aaron’s Lichen series for mixed instrumentation. I’m so excited to dig into this work (all eight movements of it!) and perform the work many times through summer and fall of 2019 - stay tuned!

Wednesday October 3rd at David Friend Recital Hall at Berklee (Boston)
Premiering a new set of trios written by Julia Werntz! Alongside Rose Hegele and Mara Goldberg, these microtonal vocal trios are based on ancient Greek erotic poems — they’re twisty and delicious :-)

Sunday November 4th at Arts at the Armory (Boston)
Friday November 9th at Cornelia Street Cafe (NYC)
Rose Hegele and I have started a new contemporary vocal duo, PERIDOT, and we’re having our first set of concerts in two cities! This set includes a sweet, ASMR-inspired (!) commission from Dan Reifsteck​, a super talented percussionist and composer, and we’re so glad he’s writing for us! We’ll also be singing Kaija Saariaho’s amazing duo, From The Grammar Of Dreams.

Thursday December 6th at Arts at the Armory (Boston)
Saturday December 8th at Spectrum (NYC)
Kyra Davies, fabulous violinist for the Semiosis Quartet, and I will be playing duo sets in Boston and NYC - among works by Jason Eckardt, Ashkan Behzadi, Missy Mazzoli, and Bright Sheng, we’ll be tackling Kate Soper’s epic duo, Cipher - if you haven’t heard this piece, check it out here. This program is gonna be littttttttt!

Friday December 14 in Providence, RI

I’ll be singing with Verdant Vibes, Rhode Island’s premiere new music ensemble -- works TBA soon!


Upcoming commission!
Amazing Boston-based composer Aaron Jay Myers is writing a piece for me, and I’m absolutely beside myself about it! It’ll be a work for solo voice, Lichens 3, as a part of Aaron’s Lichen series for mixed instrumentation. Check out his Lichens 2 here, performed by violinist Nicole Parks - also a member of the Semiosis Quartet! Lichens 3 will have it’s premiere and many performances through 2019 :-)

That’s it for now — as concerts get closer, I'll post Facebook event pages and whatnot to include concert times. 2019 brings more collaborations with cool artists like Nick Dunston, Ashkan Behzadi, Camila Agosto, Daniel Felsenfeld, and Cullyn Murphy - but more on that later ;) As always, drop me a line if you want to collaborate or chill out or chat!

Several friends have asked lately about my singing schedule updates, and so I decided to create a blog! No guarantees yet on how often this will be updated, but I have quite a few music events (and life events!) I want to share, and it seems easier to write it all out in one place :-) 

Upcoming concerts (August-September)

-August 27th – September 2nd in Halberstadt, Germany: Can’t believe this one – I’ll be singing in the John Cage Awards Competition, as well as its partner masterclass series taught by none other than SARAH MARIA SUN!!! Repertoire will include Jason’s piece, along with some Harbison and Ades. #blessed #nobutreally #sarahmariafreakingsun

-Thursday September 6th at Arete Gallery (Brooklyn, NYC): Singing a concert (curated by yours truly) with Charlotte Munn-Wood and Chris Irvine – works include Morton Feldman’s “Voices and Cello” (featuring one of my musical crushes, Rose Hegele), Reiko Fueting’s “..gesammeltes Schweigen”, a BRAND NEW WORK written for us by one of my favorite composers, Emily Praetorius. Emily’s compositions in general are breath-taking, so we’re really excited to share this new piece with you guys. There will also be lots of improvisation!

-Friday September 7th at Dimenna Center (Manhattan, NYC): I’m so pumped to sing with Ekmeles!! Rep includes Nathan Davis' The Sandreckoner, Kaija Saariaho's Tag des Jahrs, and Bernhard Lang's Fremde Sprachen. These pieces are MASSIVE - not to be missed!!


Baby’s first grant!
I was recently awarded a grant from the Puffin Foundation to put on performances of Aperghis’ Recitations in Spring 2019 with contemporary dancer/choreographer Kyle Gerry (who I worked with on a project years ago for a piece written by Drake Anderson! Small world!). Concert times/locations TBA, but we’ll be performing in NYC, Philadelphia and maybe Boston.

Life stuff
I MOVED TO BOSTON! BUT I’M IN NEW YORK TOO! WHAAAAAAAAAAT?!

Yep, I finally made the leap to go completely freelance with music and living in Boston is something I’ve been thinking about for a while. But fear not! I have two places of residence (my apartment in Boston, and my place in Queens, NYC – meaning my mom’s place which has two extra beds for when my sister and I have work in town. Love you, Mom!), and my goal is to travel a whole lot more for music now that the whole day job thing is out the window. So NYC peeps (and others) – I’m available to come sing for ya’ll! So far I’m really embracing this musical nomad life – and having a car really helps. 

That’s all for now – as I plan things out for the Fall/Winter, I’ll try to send another blurb out to keep everyone in the loop. Some future collaborations and commissions that are slowly in motion include cool works by Julia Werntz, Nick Dunston and Aaron Jay Myers, but more on that later :-)
